Neighbourhood Watch

As a result of discussions between the Blairgowrie Police and Mount
Blair Community Council representatives, it has been agreed that a new
version of the Neighbourhood Watch concept will be introduced in the
Mount Blair Community Council area.  This will replace the discontinued
“Glenwatch” system which previously operated in the area.

The new system is known as the “Neighbourhood Watch / VIP Informer
System”.  This system works in a different way from Glenwatch, in that
individual households are invited to “opt in” to the system, and only
those who have “opted in” will be directly contacted by the system.

Residents or householders who do wish to participate in the system need
to opt in by completing, signing and returning the form (VIP Form).  The
form can then be returned by post in paper form, or transmitted by fax
or by scanned email attachment to the addresses / number shown on the
form.

As is explained on the form, participants in the scheme can then be
contacted by the Police, either by telephone or email as applicable, to
be offered advice in such matters as crime prevention or given warning
of suspicious activities.  Because details of householders who have
“opted in” will be held both in the Divisional Police Headquarters in
Perth and in the Blairgowrie Police Station, warning or advisory
messages may be sent from either of these sources.  The details would
also be accessible by the Blairgowrie-based Community Police Officer for
the Mount Blair Community Council area.

We would ask you to consider “opting in” to this system, which we
consider could be a great help towards improving safety and security in
the Mount Blair Community Council area.

Chair
