This is to notify all members of the community that the first Annual General Meeting of the Mount Blair Community Development Trust (MBCDT) will be held on Thursday 24th May at 7.30pm in the Blackwater Hall. All members and non-members are welcome to attend, although only members will be eligible to vote. Membership forms will also be available at the start of the AGM – the hall will be open from 7pm. At the AGM all interim directors will stand down and new Directors appointed. Any individual wishing to stand as a Director is asked to make contact with one of the current Directors (contact details below), by Monday 21st May, to find out more about the role and register their interest. A list of potential Directors will then be circulated on Tuesday 22nd May, by e-mail, published on www.the-glens.org.uk, posted at Kirkmichael and Bridge of Cally shops, or can be obtained from Sue Smith. Any full member wishing to elect a proxy to vote on their behalf at the meeting, or wishing the Chair to place any votes, should contact Sue Smith by 12 noon on Thursday 24th May, to give details of the proxy nomination. Details of any issues that will be voted on, will be distributed along with the list of potential Directors on 22nd May.
Following the AGM, wine and nibbles will be served and there will be an initial session on a Community Consultation exercise (see details below).
Mount Blair Community Development Trust – Community Consultation. The MBCDT Board have been successful in securing a £10,000 grant from the ‘Awards for All’ Fund of the National Lottery, to undertake a Community Consultation. The purpose of this Consultation is to identify and prioritise the wishes and aspirations of the Community concerning facilities or services which they would like to see established or improved in the area. The Trust is currently appointing a professional Consultant to undertake this work and it is hoped that they will be present at the AGM. Over the next few months, the Consultant will review the work already undertaken within the community in recent years, and will meet as many residents and groups as possible within the Mount Blair area to identify current issues and ways to maintain and improve the quality of lives of those living, working and visiting the area. We hope as many of you as possible will take part in this exercise. The Consultant will produce a report of their findings to the Trust Directors and the community, detailing the outcomes, including a prioritised list of projects which will be used to guide the Trust’s activities over the coming five years.

Logo Competition
The children at Kirkmichael Primary School did a fantastic job creating some brilliant designs for our future logo. These were voted on by folk at the Summer Festival and well done to the four designs that were chosen. The plan is to submit these to the senior pupils at Blair High School Art Department to work up our brand new logo – so watch this space!Meet a Director:
We had a presence at the Kirkmichael Summer Festival 2-3rd July with a number of folk showing interest in our work with several signing up as members. If you missed this chance to chat with a Director some of us will also be around at the Strathardle Gathering in August and also at the inaugural communities cricket match on 10th September between Bridge of Cally and Kirkmichael – so come and have a chat!Membership:
Numbers are creeping up steadily - currently at 167. There’s always room for more – remember we exist to represent our local communities’ views so if you’re not a member or know of someone who isn’t, you can download an application form from ‘the Glens’ website www.the-glens.org.uk click on community info and then our link on the left side.Heating oil purchasing:
The committee is looking into the possibility of setting up a heating oil bulk purchasing scheme. A number of other local communities have been very successful with similar projects in order to make considerable savings on domestic heating oil purchases. This is at a very early stage and there will be further information in due course.Archive Project:
A lot of you will know about the proposed archive project (if not, see our link on The Glens website). We have put in an application for Lottery funding for this potentially very interesting development; let’s hope for a favourable result.Community Consultation:
Similarly we are applying for funding to enable us to appoint a consultant to advise on this and any other issues that the local communities may wish us to pursue.Charitable Status:
We have recently put in an application to become a Charitable Trust. This will have a number of advantages, not least in adding a further level of credibility in the eyes of the general public and any potential partners. It will also enable the Directors to seek advice and assistance from the Charity Regulator. Charities can apply for grants from trusts/donors who have a policy of giving only to charities. And a registered charity has more chance of gaining access to and securing funds from central government, local government, the EU and grant-making charities.
The Directors will be meeting again later next month and our first Annual General Meeting will be in the spring of 2012.
