Blackwater Public Hall
The hall committee held a very successful and enjoyable dance at Christmas time with the Meallaine Dance Band. It had been decided to have a Christmas hamper draw at the dance and through the generosity of the community we were able to make not one but three very festive hampers. They were won by Irene Tunnah Alyth, Christopher Sloan Aberdeen and Emma Sloan Glenkilrie. Our thanks go to all who donated goods and bought tickets and supported the dance.
A hogmanay party was held in the hall. All of us there had great fun dancing to CDs until the electricity went out at 11pm. David Houstoun saved the night by supplying a generator. Delicious stovies made by Kathleen Fraser were enjoyed by all and with a fireworks display we welcomed in 2007.
January the committee held their Burns Supper. Around 110 guests enjoyed the traditional fare. The haggis was piped in by Sandy Horne jnr. and addressed by Sandy Stuart. A very enjoyable evening of speeches, music, song and poetry followed. The Immortal Memory was given by John Currie and the toast to the lassies proposed by Bob Alexander appropriately replied to by Diana McFarlane. Other artistes included Fiona Tosh and Bill Cormack who gave a lovely selection of tunes on accordion and keyboard, Billy Henderson and Kathleen Fraser who both sang beautifully and Arthur Lawrence who recited “To a Mouse”. Master of ceremonies for the evening, hall chairman Donald Cameron who had amused the audience most of the evening with his “stories” brought the proceedings to a close by proposing a vote of thanks and then reciting “Holy Willies Prayer”
The hall committee thank everyone who has supported the events over the last few months.
Other events planned for the Hall in 2007 are a Barbecue on Saturday 23rd June and a concert on the 20th October with local Scottish entertainer Harry McFadden. Watch the Blackwater Hall notice board for details.
